Workshops
Field Recording workshops are a great way for individuals and teams to get together and explore the wonderful world of sound.
In May 2025 we organised and ran a workshop for Marshall in collaboration with Forever Kind at Dreamland Margate.
Our role was to lead a workshop of 60 people at 4 locations on the site. Participants explored the beach and the amusement park with a variety of interesting microphones.
Equipment
For this project we had the participants experiment with different microphone types.
We used hydrophones to hear the crashing of waves underwater and footsteps when buried in the sand.
Electromagnetic microphones to pick up sounds generated from electricity and flashing lights.
Contact microphones to record the subtle and not so subtle movements inside pinball machines.
And built in handheld recorder microphones to record real world soundscapes.
Learn with skilled creatives
Our team was made up of skilled creatives and freelancers, all experts in their craft.
Each location had an expert guiding the participants, providing useful tips & tricks and helping out when needed.
The participants were also encouraged to interact with the sound source. From playing the pinball machines in the arcade to tapping sculptures with drum sticks, taking their shoes off to get closer to the waves and building sand castles to bury the contact microphones.
The groups also had chance to change setups so everyone could get a turn at each location.
