  • How it was made

    All sounds are recorded from hitting and vibrating a large rusty metal filing cabinet, capturing unique distorted textures and intense rumbles.

    All the recordings captured using the Mid Side microphone technique have been decoded into stereo.

    All contact microphone recordings were captured using 2x Oaka Instruments Magnetic Tellus Mics. Panned hard left and hard right for a really nice stereo image.

Behind the Scenes

Creating the Sound

This Sound Library was inspired by the infamous BRAAAM sound from the movie Inception.

About the Prop

I picked up this large metal filing cabinet from the recycling centre about 10 years ago for a couple of quid. The original plan was to salvage the sheet metal to build a face plate for an old keyboard I was circuit bending. 

Rattles & Rumbles

For this particular library I kept all the tools and equipment inside while I was hitting and vibrating it. All that clutter created some lovely rattling textures, especially on the tail end of the sounds.

These days it serves more of a practical purpose in the garage. Storing tools, equipment and cleaning products. But I still get a lot of sound design use out of it and hopefully you will too!
