Warped Friction & Resonances
Friction Drums - Screeches & Resonances captures the weird and wonderful sounds of friction on drum skins.
Inside this library you'll find fantastic creaks, groans and monster vocalisation inspired sounds. Captured in ultrasonic detail, perfect for sci-fi vehicles and creature sound design!
What's Included?
A curated collection of Drum Friction sound effects, including:
Friction mallet groans, resonant bellows, vibrated drum skins, friction finger squeaks, friction finger squawks, snare drum buzzes and deep low end ringing.
All sounds are delivered as ready-to-use WAV files with UCS metadata, so they drop straight into your workflow and are easy to search.

How it was made
All sounds are recorded from a Pearl Prestige Session Select drum kit and a metal 14" snare, capturing unique friction textures and intense creature vocalisation inspired sounds.
All recordings have been captured using the LOM MikroUcho with the Ultrasonic Horn attachment at 192kHz.

Sounds vs Files
Instead of hundreds of files, this library uses "string-based" audio files, meaning:
- Multiple sound variations are embedded in each file
- Faster browsing in tools like Soundly
- Easier layering and iteration
So you spend less time searching, and more time designing.

Behind the Scenes
About the Props
The drum kit used for this library was my old Pearl Prestige Session Select kit (10" small tom, 12" medium tom, 14" floor tom & 22" kick drum) with Remo & Evans drum skins. Check out the original drum catalog here.
The snare is beat up 14" metal snare with no brand but I really like the sound of it.
Exciters
To create the friction on the drum skins I used a combination of a wet finger and a rubber drum beater.
I used the drum beater like a friction mallet to lightly drag across the drum skins so they resonated.
With a wet finger/thumb I pressed hard on the drum skins so they squeaked and squawked. Brilliant source material for creature sound design!
